Welcome to The Curious Creative

Hello, and welcome to The Curious Creative, my name’s Justin and I’m an East Sussex based pet portrait artist.

If you’d like to commission a bespoke and creative pet portrait, visit the Pet Portraits page for more details, or get in touch.
Take a look at some of my feedback, if you’d like to see what previous customers have said about their pet portraits.

While I specialise in painting pet portraits, I enjoy painting pretty much anything. Many of my other paintings are also available as exclusive fine art Giclee framed prints which are supplied ready to hang.
There are also unframed print options available in a variety of sizes.
These aren’t available anywhere else and stock is limited. Check out the shop for more details.

I hope you enjoy my work. If you have any questions, take a look at my FAQ, or simply contact me.

While you’re here, why not subscribe to my newsletter to get 10% off your first order in my shop.

Pet Portraits

Commission a bespoke, hand made, creative pet portrait.

You can choose between unframed or fully framed and ready to hang options. A selection of frames are available, with options to choose your own frame and customise to your specific requirements. All portraits are Giclee printed on fine art archival paper which resists degradation and colour fade for 100+ years.

Commissions

I’m also open for commissions to paint pretty much anything!

A painting is a unique and very personal way to remember a person, place, or moment in our lives…or anything else for that matter.

A few examples could be a newborn (or a new car!) in the family, a place that’s extra special to you, or a loved one you’d like to remember. The possibilities are endless.

If you have something in mind, simply get in touch with me and have a chat about it.

Diary of a Painting – The Seven Sisters

Welcome to the first post in my Diary of a Painting series, where I will explore why I created a particular painting, and the thought and creative processes behind it. To start things off we have one of my favourites: The Seven Sisters. Who wouldn't want to paint this...
The Ugly Dutchess by Quentin Matsys, c. 1513. Matsys was an exception artist, and didn't paint the dutchess weird.

How do I paint people without making them look weird?!

As you know, I predominantly paint pet portraits, with the odd bird, wolf, landscape or inanimate object thrown in for good measure. Recently though I’ve wanted to broaden my horizons and do more portraits, only of people this time. Now, a portrait of an actual person...

New Pet Portrait Commissions

I just wanted to post some details of the two new pet portrait commissions that I've had the pleasure of painting over the last couple of weeks. First up, meet Amos. Unfortunately, Amos is no longer with us. This is always a sensitive subject, and being a dog owner...
